SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Court started Tuesday morning without the jury present, as Deputy District Attorney Christy Bowles, Larry’s defense attorneys Liann Sabatini and Colby Ryan, along with Judge Enrique Camarena, discussed the line of questioning Sabatini had used to question Detective Jesse Vicente the previous day. Anytime this topic has been brought up, it has been a heated discussion in court.
“That was one of the most intense exchanges that I have seen. This is a very contested issue. Every time it’s raised, there tends to be just high emotion from both sides, and this time even the judge,” Aleida K. Wahn, attorney and true crime writer, said. She has been following this case since the beginning and has been in the courtroom during the trial.
Larry’s attorneys are trying to impeach the police investigation, arguing it did not properly investigate and corroborate other people’s alibis and whereabouts the night Maya went missing. While they want to specifically point to Maya’s affair partner Jamey Laird, Judge Camarena had ruled during pre-trial motions that they cannot point the finger at other people.
