City of Columbus sues Hilltop market owners for underage alcohol sales, illegal gambling

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The City of Columbus filed a lawsuit against the owners of a market in the Hilltop neighborhood that has a history of underage alcohol sales, violent crime and illegal gambling.

M&J Carryout, located at 1958 Sullivant Ave., was one of several properties residents say has been a problem in the neighborhood, according to Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein.

Since May 2024, Columbus police and fire departments have received more than 35 calls about the market. Those calls included an assault, shots being fired, substance abuse and alcohol-related incidents…
