Pennsylvania lawmakers debate future of high school state championships

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM)– High school sports are hugely popular in Pennsylvania, but do private schools have an unfair advantage over traditional public schools when it comes to winning state championships?

Several Pennsylvania lawmakers agree with those who think private schools have an upper hand, and they are moving to do something about it.

The State House overwhelmingly passed a bill a few weeks ago that would let the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) create separate playoffs and state championships for public and private schools.
