Finch & Fern to close store front, owner cites city construction and costs

SYLVANIA, Ohio — The owner of Sylvania book store Finch & Fern announced on Monday she would be closing the business’s storefront, citing ongoing downtown city construction and increasing operational costs.

In a post to Facebook, Katie Gilliland, the store’s owner, said the storefront’s last day in operation will be July 25. But the business isn’t completely shutting down: Gilliland said Finch & Fern would still operate as an online bookshop, and as a vendor at local events and pop-ups.

Gilliland said she deliberated for more than a year if she could keep the business open. A construction project in downtown Sylvania is one of the reasons she said she isn’t able to keep the business running.
