For 15 years, Lettie’s Kitchen has been serving up comfort food, family recipes, and familiar faces while building something that has become far more than a restaurant. This June, the family-owned business is celebrating its 15-year anniversary, marking a milestone rooted in history, gratitude, and community support.
Founded in 2011 by mother-and-son team Susan and Tom Alexander, Lettie’s Kitchen was created with the idea of bringing homemade meals and a welcoming atmosphere to the community. Located at 1318 Old Lancaster Pike, the restaurant has become known for its soups, sandwiches, prepared meals, catering, and especially its broasted chicken, which has developed a loyal following over the years.
The restaurant’s story begins long before its doors officially opened. Lettie’s Kitchen was named after Tom Alexander’s grandmother and Susan Alexander’s mother, Lettie, a lifelong member of the Hockessin community whose legacy continues to shape the restaurant today. Born in Hockessin in 1922, Lettie grew up helping at Gormley’s Market, her family’s grocery store, which served local families for generations.
