BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – A suspect rammed a U.S. marshal’s vehicle, sideswiped other motorists and drove the wrong way while leading authorities on a dangerous chase across the Baton Rouge area, according to court documents.
In an arrest warrant, authorities said Charles Mangrum, 40, fled law enforcement Friday, May 29, crossing the Mississippi River Bridge into Port Allen as officers tried to take him into custody.
A Baton Rouge Police Department officer working another case was called to assist U.S. marshals after Mangrum allegedly rammed one of their vehicles, the warrant states.
Investigators said the chase escalated when Mangrum allegedly swerved in front of an 18-wheeler, nearly triggering a major crash. The warrant also states Mangrum drove against traffic while trying to escape.
