Massillon hoping more staffing leads to less police, fire OT in 2026

MASSILLON – The city has boosted its safety forces personnel in recent months to attain higher staffing levels, moves that should reduce expensive overtime costs.

The influx of new hires in the police and fire departments should help drop the amount of additional pay from the city in 2026 compared to the prior years. In 2025, the combined overtime pay for the two agencies was about $1.2 million.
