SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – June is Men’s Mental Health Month and one local barbershop effort is bringing mental health conversations to a familiar place for Black men — the barbershop.
Community organizer Derrick L. Henderson and African-centered psychologist and author Dr. Mwata Sankara, also known as Dr. Kevin Washington, are teaming up with Bos-Man Barber College owner Shawn Boston for a roundtable and focus group on Black men’s mental health and wellness. They’re inviting local barbers to talk about how the shop can serve as a trusted space and as early support when someone is struggling.
