CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — New details released June 3 by the National Transportation Safety Board shed light on a crash that killed six people last summer on Interstate 485 in west Charlotte.
The deadly multi-vehicle crash happened around 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2025, on the outer loop of I-485 near the Dixie River Road overpass.

What happened
According to the NTSB, a Honda CRV driven by 16-year-old Logan Sauer was traveling south in the middle lane at about 78 mph in a 70 mph zone. A Chrysler Town & Country minivan was traveling beside it in the right lane at about 66 mph.
Investigators said the SUV abruptly turned right into the minivan. After the initial impact, both vehicles spun right, left the road, and traveled onto the right shoulder, where they struck the rear of a parked tractor-trailer. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not hurt in the crash…
