You can fly in an authentic Vietnam War Huey helicopter at Kalamazoo’s Air Zoo museum this weekend

KALAMAZOO, MI — Portage and Kalamazoo residents will have a chance to experience a piece of military aviation history this weekend when a restored Vietnam-era helicopter visits the Air Zoo Aerospace & Science Center.

A UH-1H Huey helicopter that served in combat during the Vietnam War will offer rides to the public on Saturday and Sunday, June 6 and 7. The Air Zoo is partnering with the Michigan Flight Museum & Air Adventures to bring the aircraft to the area.

The helicopter, designated tail number 66-01126, was built in 1967 and deployed to Vietnam shortly after, where it flew missions until 1971. It was assigned to the 240th Assault Helicopter Company and operated under the call sign “Greyhound,” supporting troops and evacuating wounded soldiers…
