KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Tennessee Department of Disability and Aging and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation launched a website to educate older adults about scams.
The site, called SafeSeniorTN.com, is part of an initiative meant to give older adults the information they need to avoid scams and bad actors. This includes lessons in personal safety, financial risks, and technology risks.

Every year, scammers steal $500 million from people over the age of 60 in Tennessee, said Aaron Bradley, director of the East Tennessee Area Agency on Aging and Disability. Nationally, the number is $45 billion, he added. He explained that scammers will call and befriend “good-hearted” seniors then pretend to have an emergency and ask for money.
“This is a real opportunity for older adults to really build a hedge about themselves to protect themselves from the bad guys,” he said…
