Rutherford County considers new athletics compliance role as transfer rule takes effect

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Rutherford County Schools (RCS) is considering creating a new district-level athletics oversight position as a new, one-time transfer rule for student-athletes takes effect across Tennessee.

School board members are expected to vote on the proposed role during a meeting this Thursday night. The position, titled Rutherford County Athletics Supervisor, would be under the district athletic director and focus on eligibility tracking, compliance monitoring and program oversight.

District officials say the job would centralize responsibilities tied to student-athlete paperwork, including physicals, transfer documentation, academic eligibility and coaching certifications. It would also involve reviewing compliance with TSSAA and TMSAA rules, supporting investigations into potential violations, and conducting periodic audits of school athletic programs…
