EUGENE, Ore. — A man charged in the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old woman in west Eugene accepted a plea agreement Thursday, June 4, and was sentenced to more than 23 years in prison, according to court proceedings.
Brandon Daniel Smith pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and unlawful use of a weapon after waiving his right to a grand jury indictment. The plea agreement had been negotiated with prosecutors and was accepted by the court.
Smith was sentenced to 240 months in prison on the manslaughter charge, with 120 months required and the remaining 120 months eligible for reduction based on good behavior. He also received a 36-month sentence for unlawful use of a weapon, along with two years of post-prison supervision.
