Wadsworth weighs levy changes as EMS calls rise

WADSWORTH — Wadsworth City Council began discussions during Wednesday’s work session on potential fire and EMS levy proposals that could appear on the November ballot, due to rising emergency calls and future staffing needs, while attempting to limit taxes on residents.

Public Safety Director Dan Chafin outlined the city’s funding structure for fire and EMS and presented many levy scenarios for consideration.

The fire department is funded through a 1.5-mill levy approved in 2021, township contracts and the general fund. The levy generates about $947,000 annually and is primarily used for expenses, including equipment and facilities, Chafin said…
