HUDSON OH- It was a tough fought battle on a sunny Thursday night in Hudson, but unfortunately the game would not fall in favor of Archbishop Hoban as the Knights found themselves facing defeat in a 3-2 walkoff against the Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy Royals in the Division 3 Regional Final.
CVCA grabbed the lead early with a run in the first inning, but Zakary Zellers would bounce back in his start on the mound, stranding the bases loaded in the 1st and only allowing a single hit through his final 3 innings of work while tallying 6 strikeouts, as his performance helped to keep the Knights in striking distance with a 1-0 deficit going into the 5th.
And in need of an offensive spark, the Knights would find it in the 5th. Brady Wachter would smack a one-out triple into the right-center gap before coming home on an infield RBI single from Zakary Zellers to tie the game 1-1. Zellers would then go 2nd to home on a ground ball off the bat of Grady Falkenstein, with Falkenstein able to use his speed to beat out a throw at first and allow the score on what would’ve been out number 3 but instead gave Hoban a 2-1 lead…
