BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Two Lockport residents have been accused of stealing 17 calves from a barn in Oakfield in late May, the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office said.
Officials said that Torrence A. Schmitt, 25, and Kerisa J. Schmitt, 26, allegedly took 17 Holstien heifer calves from an open barn in Oakfield on May 24. They are alleged to have removed the identification tags of 16 calves.
They were taken into custody on June 3 and arraigned on June 4 on the following charges:
- third-degree burglary
- third-degree grand larceny (the value of the calves was determined to be over $41,000, officials said)
- tampering with evidence
- first-degree falsifying business records
Both were released and are scheduled to return to court at a future date.
