Kentucky gets a surprise border-state clash in newly announced ACC-SEC challenge

It’s safe to say that Kentucky Basketball hasn’t had the best of luck when it comes to the ACC-SEC Challenge. In its three-year existence, the Cats are just 1-2, with back-to-back losses to Clemson and North Carolina defining what has been an underwhelming run for Kentucky so far. Kentucky run away from Miami in Rupp Arena, but that’s been nearly three years ago now. This year, Mark Pope’s squad will hit the road in search of a rebound in the competition.

The schedule for the 2026-2027 ACC-SEC Challenge has been set, and Kentucky will be traveling to John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, Virginia, to take on the Cavaliers.

These two teams are right next door to each other but, oddly enough, haven’t played in a hot minute.

The Virginia Cavaliers Await

The last time the Cats and Cavaliers took the court was in 2002, when Virginia knocked off Kentucky 75-61 in the Maui Invitational. Jules Camara, Marquis Estill, and Keith Bogans all had 12 points in the defeat. Before that, the two teams hadn’t clashed since Kentucky swept a home-and-home series with Virginia in 1965 and 1966.
