World’s largest steam locomotive to make several Ohio stops

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — The world’s largest steam locomotive will be making several stops in Ohio this summer.

Big Boy 4014 is one of eight remaining locomotives of its kind, but is the only one still operating. The others are on display throughout the country.

The train is crossing America for the country’s 250th birthday. Union Pacific said it will be the first time this specific Big Boy has ventured to the east coast. The train began its journey May 25 in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and will return to Cheyenne on July 29.

The locomotive will make the following stops in Ohio in its two-month journey across the country:

  • Continental | June 6: 11:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. | Near Oak Street and Main Street
  • Fostoria | June 6: 2:15 p.m. – 3 p.m. | Fostoria Iron Triangle Railpark
  • Lorain | June 8: 11:15 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. | Near West 11th Street and Reid Avenue
  • Euclid | June 8: 1:30 p.m. – 2 p.m. | Chardon Road Crossing, north of Euclid Avenue
  • Struthers | July 12: 11:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. | South Bridge Street Crossing
  • Rocky River | July 13: 1 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. | 19060 Depot Street
  • Continental | July 15: 11:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. | Near Oak Street and Main Street

In addition to the above stops, the locomotive will also be on display from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 14 at the Fostoria Automotive Distribution Center in Fostoria. Admission is free and no tickets are required…
