MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Four Tennessee hunters — including former U.S. Rep. Stephen Fincher — have been fined for overhunting ducks.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, a federal judge on April 6 sentenced Noah Tritt Fincher, Austin Lee Fincher, Will Hunter Carson and Stephen Lee Fincher for violating the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. The law prohibits taking protected migratory bird species without authorization from the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Fish and Wildlife Service.
The DOJ said the violation occurred in January 2025, when the hunters killed about 35 ducks — 11 over the legal limit. Court documents also say the former congressman had a shotgun capable of holding more than three shells.
Stephen Fincher was ordered to pay $7,500 in fines and is banned from hunting for one year. The other three hunters were each ordered to pay $2,500 and also lose their hunting privileges for one year…
