HOWELL — A Charlotte Cook goal with 29.8 seconds left, starting in front of the net then ranging to her right before slotting it into the net, lifted Detroit Country Day to a 13-12 win over East Grand Rapids for the Division 2 girls lacrosse state title on Friday.
Cook had six goals on 15 shots, capping her night off with a game- and championship-winning goal.
“I wanted to prove to everyone that, as a sophomore, even when I was being face-guarded, I could get in there and I could make something happen,” Cook said. “I wasn’t just doing it to win. I wasn’t doing it for myself. I was doing it for my team around me, because I know they wanted me to take that. I’m glad they could trust me.”…
