Alstom to build Acela maintenance facility in Delaware

NEWARK, Del. — Alstom will spend more than $55 million to develop a new facility in Delaware to service and maintain Amtrak’s NextGen Acela trainsets, the company announced on Thursday, June 4.

The company has purchased a 20-acre property in Newark, a former container manufacturing site, from Graham Packaging Pet Technologies for $25 million, according to a paywalled article in the Delaware Business Times.

The company will build a new maintenance building at the site adjacent to the Northeast Corridor that will be capable of handling two trainsets at a time, with a third, outdoor track for storage. An existing warehouse will be adapted to become a parts distribution center; an existing center in New Castle, Del., will be relocated to the new site, along with the 50 employees at that site, while another 50 workers will be hired for the expanded operation…
