JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The Jackson Fire Department (JFD) hosted a fire hydrant demonstration on Friday, following difficulties accessing a painted over fire hydrant during an active fire.
During a June 2, 2026, City Council meeting, Councilman Ashby Foote, Ward 1, brought to discussion fire hydrants due to a fire that occurred in his ward. While attempting to fight the fire, firefighters said they could not access a fire hydrant that had been painted over by the community. Firefighters accessed water from another nearby hydrant due to the difficulties.
The fire department said during the meeting, JXN Water returned the same day to the hydrant, and they were able to get the hydrant open with different specialized tools. But in a statement from JXN Water, they said crews used the same standard hydrant wrench available to JFD to get it opened…
