The Edwardsville girls soccer team put a scare into one of the top teams in the country but ultimately came up inches short in the Class 3A state semifinals.
Gabby Thompson rattled the crossbar with two minutes remaining in the second overtime, but New Trier corralled the rebound before the Tigers could get another shot away in a 2-1 loss June 5 at North Central College in Naperville.
