LOGAN COUNTY (WAND and 25News Now) – Central Illinois politicians are blasting the state’s decision to replace an aging prison for women in Lincoln with a new lockup closer to Chicago in Crest Hill.
The Illinois Department of Corrections announced Friday it is finalizing plans to build two prisons in Crest Hill, including one to replace the Logan County Correctional Center, which has buildings dating back to the 1930s.
For Lincoln, this is the latest economic blow following the closure of Lincoln College in May 2022 and Lincoln Christian University two years later…
