Black bear sightings reported in Middle Tennessee counties

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Black bears are wandering through Middle Tennessee this spring and early summer.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency says several counties have spotted black bears in recent weeks, including Hickman, Dickson, Wilson and Sumner counties.

Tennessee’s black bear population lives mostly on the Cumberland Plateau and throughout East Tennessee, but their range once covered the entire state. Neighboring states also have growing bear populations. Each spring, young bears leave their mothers to find new places to live.
