Wheeling, W.Va (WTRF) – Two Tornado Warnings were issued across portions of the Ohio Valley Saturday evening as strong thunderstorms moved through the region.
The first Tornado Warning was issued around 7 p.m. for portions of Guernsey, Belmont and Monroe counties in eastern Ohio after radar indicated an area of rotation south of Barnesville.
The warning was scheduled to remain in effect until 7:30 p.m. but was allowed to expire early after the rotation weakened.
A second Tornado Warning was issued shortly after around 7:30 p.m. for Monroe County, Ohio, along with Marshall and parts of Wetzel counties in West Virginia. The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh issued the warning after radar detected a more pronounced area of rotation within a storm moving through the area.
That warning remained in effect until 8 p.m. before being allowed to expire as the storm interacted with another nearby cell, causing the rotation to broaden and weaken. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning remained in place for the affected area until 8:30 p.m. before expiring.
Both Tornado Warnings were radar-indicated, and as of Saturday evening, no tornadoes had been confirmed on the ground…
