$45M cocaine bust uncovers 2,000ft drug tunnel from Tijuana to fake San Diego store

A nearly 2,000ft-long tunnel stretching from Mexico to a fake discount store in the U.S. has been discovered in a $45 million drug bust.

The elaborate underground passage – equipped with reinforced walls, rail, and ventilation systems and electricity – connected Tijuana to a facade storefront in San Diego.

The shop – named ‘Buy 4 Less’ – was exposed following an investigation initiated by Homeland Security drug officers. They began monitoring the Otay Mesa store in December last year.

Four individuals have been charged with conspiring to distribute more than a ton of cocaine, estimated to be worth $45 million, in connection with the raid.
