Spokane speed limit cuts proposed on nine arterial road sections

Spokane, Wash. — Spokane city leaders are set to discuss a proposal that would lower posted speed limits on sections of nine arterial roads, according to city agenda materials for the Public Infrastructure, Environment and Sustainability Committee.

The discussion is listed for the committees June 8th meeting, with a City Council meeting date of July 15, 2026. The proposal covered parts of Central Avenue, Cowley Street, Deer Heights Road, Palouse Highway, Sunset Highway, G Street, Perry Street, Valley Springs Road and Summit Boulevard-Mission Avenue.

According to the information packet materials the recommended changes comes from several reviews. They include a response to the mayor’s July 2024 executive order on arterial speed limits, a Complete Streets review tied to 2026 grind and overlay projects and concerns raised in the Beacon Hill area about Valley Springs Road…
