From the Editor: The Crozet Fourth Needs You!

By the time this issue is on the street, Crozet’s Fourth of July parade and fireworks show will be less than a month away. The planning team launched the fundraising drive for the fireworks’ bill last month, and so far, the response has been, shall we say, lackluster. This year’s goal of $50,000—the same sum we reached last year—is largely due to the fact that the show falls on July 4th itself, when demand for authorized operators is high. Usually, our show does not fall on the Fourth and we can get a deal. Furthermore, we’ve made the show bigger and louder (more expensive) now that we have the launch room at King Family Vineyards. We also must have money in the bank to pay the deposit (half the bill) for the 2027 show, which will be due around Christmas. Please support the event—106 years old now—and pitch in.

This will be the third year at King Family, and the planning team has been improving the plan based on experience from the last two years. Gates open at 6 p.m. with live music from Ian Gilliam and the Fire Kings and the Chicken Head Blues Band, plus activities for kids, food, beer, and King Family wines— all capped off with fireworks around 9:30. There will be new features and refinements, but you’ll have to come to find out what they are…
