Castroville Road Shoplift Showdown Ends With Rock Attack, Robbery Bust

What started as a routine shoplifting call on San Antonio’s West Side Saturday night quickly spiraled into a violent confrontation, leaving one man injured and a suspect facing a robbery charge. Police say the victim’s injuries were not life-threatening, and officers detained both people involved before booking the suspect.

According to WOAI, officers were called around 7:23 p.m. to the 200 block of Castroville Road for a reported fight. Investigators say a man walked into a business, tried to leave with unpaid merchandise, and was confronted by another man who told him to hand the items back. Police say the suspect allegedly tossed one of the items back toward the man, then hit him with a rock. Officers stepped in, separated the two, and detained them at the scene.

San Antonio has seen several theft incidents tip into violence lately. In May, Hoodline reported a North Side case where a clerk was beaten after an alleged grab-and-go, a reminder that trying to stop a suspected shoplifter can come with real risks for workers and bystanders alike.
