Suspect in Mentor bike assaults, standoff to remain jailed

MENTOR, Ohio (WJW) — A Mentor man accused of seriously injuring two bicyclists and leading police on an hours-long standoff last week pleaded not guilty during his arraignment Monday.

Michael Leppelmeier, 42, appeared in court after being released from a hospital where he had been treated following his arrest.

Leppelmeier is charged with two counts of felonious assault, robbery, assault and disrupting public service.

During the hearing, prosecutors asked the court to impose a high bond or no bond and requested a no-contact order protecting the alleged victims…
