GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – An Upstate veterinarian is putting pet owners on high alert about potential algae poisoning in pets.
Algae blooms are plant-like organisms, medical experts said, that produce dangerous toxins and can form in both deep waters and shallow ponds. That can include backyards as well as swimming pools that aren’t well-maintained.
Veterinarian and owner of Vet Chat Mobile Services, Dr. Christy Belcher, told 7NEWS algae blooms often look like a coat of paint on top of water and can be blue-green or a very murky, muddy color. Dr. Belcher said drinking water with algae in it can be deadly for dogs…
