Strong to severe storms, fire danger and heat all possible for Monday

(SOUTHERN COLORADO) – There’s a lot of ground to cover in Monday’s forecast as the chance of severe weather, fire danger and heat all come to Southern Colorado.

Monday’s Forecast: There’s a lot to cover on Monday. Let’s start with all the ingredients that will bring a chance of strong to severe showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. As you can see in the slideshow below, the dew point shows there is plenty of moisture coming in right now. In addition, there is a cold front coming from the Pacific Northwest and an incoming low-pressure system that will help bring energy to the atmosphere. All those ingredients together make some parts of Southern Colorado a prime target for severe weather today.

The Severe Weather Outlook shows that parts of Eastern El Paso County, the Palmer Divide, and counties close to the Kansas border have the highest risk of seeing strong to severe showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. You can view the graphic below for the severe risk for Monday.

If you aren’t seeing the storms, you might see winds between 20 and 30 mph this afternoon and low humidity. There is a Red Flag Warning in effect for Fremont, Pueblo, and Huerfano Counties until 7 p.m.
