Nelson County purchases nearly 700 acres of land off Route 29 near Lovingston

NELSON COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) – For roughly $8.9 million, Nelson County has purchased 683 acres of land off Route 29 just south of Lovingston, in a move the locality says serves as a “strategic investment.”

In a statement, Nelson County Administrator Candy McGarry says the acreage represents a “key location for future economic development because of its transportation access and proximity to existing infrastructure.” The county also says that the public purchase of the land, which was previously up for auction, allows the community to provide feedback on how it should be used, “rather than seeing it pass into private ownership without public input.”

There’s no official plan yet for how the county will transform the nearly 700 acres, as leadership says the acquisition doesn’t commit the Board of Supervisors to any specific development or zoning changes.
