Lane reductions, closures on US-131 as MDOT works on repairs

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A pair of potentially disruptive projects began on US-131 in Grand Rapids on Monday as the Michigan Department of Transportation continues to try and keep up with triaging and treating the wide variety of modernizations, repairs and replacements necessary around its network of roads.

Downtown, a lane reduction is in place on northbound US-131 between Wealthy Street and Pearl Street, while MDOT upgrades the streetlight system above the highway.

“Newer, better,” MDOT Grand Region Communication Representative John Richard told News 8. “There will be a noticeable difference. The visibility there will be much better.”
