Villagers invited to special program to celebrate our flag and patriotism

Flag Day is celebrated in the U.S. on June 14. It commemorates the adoption of our American flag, officially approved by the Second Continental Congress on this date in 1777.

The Villages Chapter of SAR will be celebrating the Stars and Stripes when they meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 13, at Captiva Recreation Center.

The guest speaker will be John Rainey, who will speak about the “History of Old Glory and Patriotic Songs.”

Rainey is a popular local speaker in The Villages, frequently presenting on our American heritage. He is proud to be a seventh generation American. He grew up in the heartland in a small town in Missouri. He has been a teacher, scientist, professional photographer, small business owner, city councilman, mayor, director of Ooperations for the Rocky Mountain Region of Fantastic Sams, and most recently he retired as the Vice President of RE/MAX of Florida/Georgia.
