Court records reveal suspect ‘ambushed’ adoptive parents in deadly Battle Ground stabbing

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The victims of a Battle Ground stabbing that left one individual dead and another seriously injured were the suspect’s adoptive parents, court documents have revealed.

Steven Williams appeared in court for two domestic violence charges, including first-degree murder and first-degree attempted murder, in connection with the deadly incident on Tuesday. A probable cause affidavit obtained by KOIN 6 alleged the 39-year-old man “ambushed” the people who adopted him at birth, leading up to his arrest on June 5.

Court records show the suspect’s mother called 911 around 1:30 p.m. to report Williams had stabbed her and her husband at their residence near Northeast 117th Avenue and Northeast 244th Street. Her husband was pronounced dead on the scene despite authorities attempting to use life-saving measures, while she was hospitalized with a brain bleed, laceration to her hand and broken orbital bone.

She later told authorities her son suffers from schizoaffective disorder and “has the mentality of a 10-year-old,” according to the affidavit. It also revealed Williams told officials his mother had been upset over how he put away groceries, and he “indicated this and a combination of verbal and physical abuse over the years made him ‘snap.’”…
