Historic Brookby Estate manor under contract

EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — As demolition continues on Brookby Estate’s outbuildings, the crown jewel of the estate — its historic eight-bedroom manor — is getting a new owner.

Grand Rapids-based builder Whitmore Custom Homes purchased the East Grand Rapids estate from Aquinas College earlier this year, with plans to preserve the manor as a private residence and split the surrounding property into four lots for custom homes.

The 12,000-square-foot mansion at Plymouth Avenue and Robinson Road is currently under contract, Whitmore Customs Homes CEO Lucas Jones confirmed to News 8 Monday, adding that the buyer has already moved in.

Built in the late 1920s by John W. Blodgett Sr., the manor carries about a century of history. While Jones couldn’t share details about the contract, he emphasized that the buyer is “very excited about living in the property and keeping the historic charm the way it currently is.”…
