PALM BEACH GARDENS (CBS12 News) — The final step on the road to the U.S. Open made a stop at BallenIsles Country Club on Monday as golfers battled through 36 holes in one of the nation’s final qualifying sites, a grueling challenge known throughout the sport as “The Longest Day in Golf.”
Only four players would emerge with spots in this month’s U.S. Open, and the competition remained tight from the opening tee shot through a playoff that extended the day even further.
Among the notable names in the field was Jupiter resident Matt Kuchar. The former Players Championship winner and longtime PGA Tour standout remained in contention throughout the day, but ultimately fell short of qualifying for the championship…
