Street in San Antonio Pride district could soon bear the name of drag performer

A portion of North Main Avenue could soon bear the name of a beloved transgender drag performer.

District 1 Councilwoman Sukh Kaur proposed the city designate a half-mile stretch of North Main Avenue near downtown as “Erica Andrews Memorial Way” to recognize the performer who died in 2013. The segment would stretch from East Cypress Street to East Ashby Place.

Andrews lived in San Antonio from 1992 to 2012 and performed on the drag queen pageant circuit, Kaur said in her policy proposal. Andrews collected several awards and titles throughout her career, including International Queen in Thailand and Miss Gay USofA.
