Animal Law Enforcement rescues domestic ducks

(PIKES PEAK REGION, Colo.) — The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) said recently Animal Law Enforcement rescued several domestic ducks and warned against releasing domesticated animals into the wild.

Recently, two ALE officers teamed up to rescue six domestic ducks from two different locations. Unfortunately, HSPPR said there were more ducks at those locations that they were unable to safely capture.

One of the officers was trying to lure domestic ducks to safety with food and quickly found himself leading an entire feathered entourage, a sign that they might be domesticated ducks. Thankfully, the officer’s fan club was able to make it to safety.

HSPPR said while it may seem like ducks can simply fend for themselves at local ponds, domestic ducks are not wild ducks. Many lack the survival skills needed to thrive on their own and can face challenges finding food, avoiding predators, and surviving harsh weather conditions…
