City councilor wants to hold smoke shops to same standards as dispensaries

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – An Albuquerque city councilor wants smoke shops farther apart, including a proposed 1,320-foot buffer between shops.

On Monday, Albuquerque City Councilor Renée Grout said she wants smoke shops held to standards similar to cannabis dispensaries before more open across the city.

Jose Vialpando owns Chronic Kings on Lomas and said he used to run part of the business as a smoke shop. He said an updated ordinance would mean less competition near his dispensary…
