HONOLULU (Island News) – First responders with the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) and Honolulu Police Department (HPD) responded to an apparent explosion that was reported in Waikiki on Tuesday morning.
HPD temporarily shut down Kanekapolei St. in all directions at 8:20 a.m., but roads have since reopened.
HFD confirmed with Island News, that just before 8 a.m. they received a 911 call for an apparent explosion in the Waikiki area. Officials reported that a worker at the location was mixing chemicals in the pump room of the pool area to begin cleaning tasks when an explosion occurred.
HFD said that the worker’s care was transferred to the Honolulu Emergency Medical Services (EMS). The extent of their injuries haven’t been disclosed at this time.
Firefighters were able to isolate and evacuate the immediate area and the HFD Hazardous Materials team responded to the scene to collect samples to identify the chemicals that were involved…
