Font on fake tag leads to drug, driving charges: MPD

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is accused of driving with a fake temporary tag that had the wrong font, and possessing cocaine found in a traffic stop Monday.

Darren E Lipford, 57, was charged with methamphetamine possession, felony, driving while license suspended/revoked/ canceled, violation of vehicle registration law, financial responsibility, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Around midnight, officers responded to a drugs/narcotics violation call in the 1300 block of Sycamore View Road.

Officers patrolling the area of Macon Cove and Sycamore View saw a gray Infiniti G37 traveling eastbound with a temporary license plate that appeared fake due to the incorrect font, which was misplaced and printed over the paper multiple times.

After a traffic stop was conducted, the driver, later identified as Darren Lipford, reportedly had his license suspended since October 2024 for failing to pay child support…
