Brothers charged after chase, shots fired at Poplar and Kirby in East Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two men face charges of attempted first-degree murder and more after police say a gun trade turned into a broad-daylight chase with shots fired near busy Poplar Avenue in East Memphis and Germantown.

Jeremy Watlington, 21, and Andrew Barnes, 18, both of West Memphis, are booked in the Shelby County Jail. Watlington also faces charges for use of a firearm in a dangerous felony, no driver’s license, no insurance, and leaving the scene of an accident. Barnes is also charged with tampering with evidence and use of a firearm in a dangerous felony. No bail has been set.

Police say they received a shots-fired call just before 4 p.m. Monday on Aaron Brenner Drive. A caller said he’d seen multiple rifle shots fired from a car that was chasing a Toyota Prius.

While Memphis Police were checking the area behind an Italian restaurant on Kirby Parkway, they encountered Germantown Police, who were responding to a hit-and-run wreck at Kirby and Poplar…
