Teenager arrested in connection with South Street shooting

HAMPTON, Va., (WAVY) — A teenage boy was arrested and charged with multiple crimes in connection with a shooting that occurred May 17 in the 600 block of South Street, according to Shaun Stalnaker with the Hampton Police Division. 19-year-old Amaree McKie was shot in the incident and later died from his injuries.

The 16-year-old from Newport News has been charged with the following crimes:

  • First-degree murder
  • Conspiracy to commit robbery
  • Attempted robbery
  • Possession of a firearm by a juvenile
  • Two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony
  • Shooting in or across a roadway
