South Carolina Caregiver Charged After Neglected Man Found Behind Nailed-Shut Door

A caregiver in South Carolina faces an attempted murder charge after authorities found a ‘vulnerable adult’ locked inside a home without food, power, or running water.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office went to the house on May 30 to check on the resident. Deputies quickly realized they could not just walk through the entrance. They had to force their way into the home through a nailed-shut door.

The living conditions inside the residence were dire. In a release, a sheriff’s office spokesperson said, “Inside, [deputies] located a vulnerable adult who was bedridden, nearly non-verbal and living in severe neglect.”…
