At Syracuse’s Greek Festival, the food starts with a lot of dough — and a lot of opinions

DeWitt, N.Y. — Downstairs in the kitchen at St. Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Church, a long table is covered with dough.

Around it, a dozen women work assembly-line style, stretching, folding and filling spanakopita for the church’s annual Greek Cultural Festival. One gives directions. Another disagrees. A third laughs and keeps working.

And they’re all talking at once…
