NEW FRANKLIN — Students at Nolley Elementary School closed out the school year by taking part in two events to raise money for the American Cancer Society and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
This year marked the 21st year for the Relay for Life event led by Nolley teachers Shari Gardner and Jennifer Behrens to raise money for the American Cancer Society. The relay was held May 26.
Behrens said the event began with an opening ceremony honoring cancer survivors from the community, who were given goodie bags. Each of the survivors and their student or students were announced during the ceremony. In 2018, the school changed the name of the event to the Oliver Demrovsky Relay for Life to honor Demrovsky, who lost his battle with brain cancer before he could begin fourth grade…
