MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The latest drought monitor shows every county in at least severe drought, with extreme drought still including all of the Grand Strand.
The new map was released Thursday, June 11, and is based on conditions valid Tuesday, June 9, at 8 a.m.
SOUTH CAROLINA
The U.S. Drought Monitor shows widespread drought across South Carolina, including the Grand Strand and Pee Dee.
For the our area, the most notable areas are where extreme drought, is listed. According to U.S. Drought Monitor county statistics, extreme drought covers portions of:
- Georgetown County: 97.37%
- Horry County: 49.52%
- Williamsburg County: 25.65%
- Marion County: 1.55%

Percentages from the U.S. Drought Monitor are cumulative, meaning the D2 number represents the share of the county in severe drought or worse, and the D3 number represents the share in extreme drought or worse. 97% of Georgetown County is currently under an extreme drought. We all need rain badly.
